Tummy Tuck in St. Louis, MO

Regardless of age or gender, a strong, firm abdominal core is the goal. However, actually attaining a slim midsection is among the most challenging of endeavors. Whether it is a small belly pooch that is resisting those crunches and plank workouts or loose skin from pregnancy or weight loss, sculpting a trim tummy often feels just out of reach.

Thankfully, tummy tuck surgery can make that dream a reality. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Porshinsky performs tummy tuck surgery for patients in St. Louis, Missouri.

What Is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

Tummy tuck surgery targets loose skin, separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and excess fat in the lower abdomen. Abdominoplasty is the most effective way to transform your abdominal contour.

Why Should I Choose Dr. Porshinsky for My Tummy Tuck?

Dr. Brian Porshinsky is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over a decade of experience performing tummy tucks and other body contouring procedures. Dr. Porshinsky and his team at Aria Cosmetic Surgery offer a collection of body and breast contouring procedures and prioritize patient safety and satisfaction.

What Are the Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery?

A tummy tuck provides both aesthetic and health-related benefits. Women and men turn to tummy tuck surgery to:

  • Remove loose skin on the lower abdomen
  • Eliminate a lower stomach pooch or belly bulge
  • Repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
  • Improves posture

Am I a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty is performed to address loose skin, stretched muscles, and excess fat, creating a firmer and flatter abdominal contour. Candidates for this procedure are looking to tighten their midsection after one or more pregnancies, weight loss, or the aging process.

Tummy tuck candidates should not smoke, have a BMI less than 32, have good overall health, and have realistic expectations about their results. Even though this procedure can reduce excess fat in the abdomen, it is not a weight-loss surgery. Patients should be willing to commit to a healthy lifestyle afterward to maintain results.

How Is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

A tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia.

While there are variations to the tummy tuck (including mini and extended versions), most patients interested in this procedure are best suited for a standard abdominoplasty. Dr. Porshinsky will evaluate your needs during your consultation to determine the right approach for your physique and concerns.

During a standard tummy tuck, an incision is made across the lower abdomen from hip to hip. This incision crosses above the pubic area which allows the resulting scar to be hidden by clothing.

From here, excess skin is trimmed, fat is reduced, and abdominal muscles are tightened. The abdominal skin is then draped over the newly tightened abdominal contour. The belly button (umbilicus) is repositioned in the skin flap.

Tummy Tuck and Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover can be chosen for patients who wish to address both their abdominal contours and their breasts. A Mommy Makeover surgery combines abdominal contouring with breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, or breast reduction.

How Long Is Tummy Tuck Recovery?

A tummy tuck addresses your core muscles, and you can expect to be sore, bruised, and swollen. Your midsection will be wrapped in a compression garment that will protect the healing incision, promote blood circulation, and help reduce bruising and swelling.

Any discomfort can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. If drains are needed following your tummy tuck, Dr. Porshinsky will explain how to monitor and empty these drains. The drains will be removed a few days after your surgery.

Most tummy tuck patients return to work after two weeks; however, they should avoid all strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least six weeks or until cleared to resume by Dr. Porshinsky.

When Will I See My Tummy Tuck Results?

While you will notice a tighter abdomen immediately after your surgery, your tummy tuck results will develop gradually as the bruising and swelling subside. Final results can take up to a month.

The results of your abdominoplasty will be long lasting as long as you maintain a stable weight and avoid significant weight fluctuations or subsequent pregnancies. Your tummy tuck will result in a tighter, smoother, and more toned lower and upper abdominal contour.
