Rhinoplasty in St. Louis

Many people find themselves dissatisfied with their noses due to aesthetic or functional concerns. The most effective way to treat physical complications and aesthetic issues related to the nose is nose surgery (rhinoplasty). Rhinoplasty allows patients to change their nose’s size, shape, and projection to match their ideal aesthetic. This process will change the appearance of the nose while enhancing the face’s contours and symmetry.

What Are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

The primary benefit of nose surgery is an improved facial appearance. The nose acts as the centerpiece for the face. Thus, any defect in the nose can throw off its balance. Fortunately, by correcting the nose, the face will also generally improve in appearance. A nose job can be used to treat a number of conditions, not all of which are directly related to the nose. Rhinoplasty may correct some or all of the following conditions:

  • Over or undersized nose
  • Facial asymmetry
  • A high or low nasal bridge
  • Overly wide nostrils
  • A crooked, misshapen, or misaligned septum
  • Difficulty breathing due to nasal blockages
  • Physical or developmental damage to the shape of the nose

Am I a Rhinoplasty Candidate?

If you are displeased with your nose’s size, shape, structure, or function, you are a potential candidate for rhinoplasty. Ideal candidates will have specific concerns regarding their noses that they want to change. A nose can be reshaped through a series of techniques that may be adjusted to match each patient’s needs. Patients under 18 may wish to consider a teenage rhinoplasty procedure, as it may more adequately address their needs.

To determine which rhinoplasty techniques are best suited for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Porshinsky by calling (314) 251-5570.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

The first step in any plastic surgery is the consultation. During this meeting with Dr. Porshinsky, the patient will discuss their goals and desires and ask any questions about the operation. Dr. Porshinsky will also evaluate the patient’s nose to ensure that rhinoplasty will safely and effectively fulfill their needs. This evaluation will determine the type of nose the patient currently has and determine what changes the patient may realistically achieve.

During the operation, the patient will be placed under general anesthesia to ensure they experience no pain. An incision is usually made across the columella at the base of the nose (the tissue separating the nostrils) to allow Dr. Porshinsky to lift the nose tissue. This placement provides minimal scarring in most cases.

To physically reshape the nose, Dr. Porshinsky will use specialized surgical techniques to treat the patient. These techniques will vary depending on the goals of the procedure and the physical condition of the nose. Dr. Porshinsky can adjust the nose’s size and shape to match the patient’s goals. The operation may insert grafts, excise bone or cartilage, or utilize physical reshaping to adjust the nose as required.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

The cost of rhinoplasty in St. Louis can vary widely depending on a series of factors. The most obvious is the extent of change desired or required (depending on the operation). This cost can usually be estimated following your consultation. Other factors that can impact the price of rhinoplasty include:

  • Surgical fees
  • Facility fees
  • Anesthesiologist fees
  • Cost of recovery medicines and supplies

Dr. Porshinsky will ensure you have a firm understanding of your nose surgery price before you undergo the procedure.

Dr. Porshinsky works with a medical credit provider to assist his patients in financing their operation if necessary. Financing is a great way to allow those who cannot afford cosmetic surgery upfront to cover their medical costs over time, all while enjoying their new and improved appearance.

How Long Does Recovery From Rhinoplasty Take?

Most patients experience swelling and discomfort for three to five days. During this time, patients will wear specialized Doyle splints to help stabilize their new nasal shape. After these splints are removed, patients can usually resume daily activities (this usually occurs within one to two weeks). Patients should avoid rigorous activities for six to eight weeks following their surgery to ensure the cartilage and other tissue has time to settle into its new form.

What Are the Expected Results From Rhinoplasty?

The initial results of rhinoplasty may be visible within three to six weeks following the operation. Final results may take six months to two years to fully develop, depending on the scope of the procedure. The result of a rhinoplasty is a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Rhinoplasty can also be used to provide increased nasal functionality in addition to aesthetic adjustments. Restored nasal functionality usually becomes apparent within two to six weeks.
